Miami Welcomes The Design Miami/ Basel 2012 Art Fair

This week, Miami will be the cultured home of a world premier art fair.  Design Miami/ Basel 2012 will be dedicated to 20thand 21st century design, featuring historic and contemporary design, 1960’s and ‘70’s French design as well as enamel, glass and ceramic works. The design fair is an extension of the Art Basel Miami Beach which is held every winter, these being just two of the cultural delights this city has to offer illustrating what a vibrant and innovative city Miami is – being at the forefront of art and design. With nearly 40 galleries exhibiting furniture and objects from the 20th century to the present day as well as Design Talks and Performances, a book shop and the W Hotel Designer of the Future Award there is enough to satisfy even the most exacting of art lovers.

Speaking about what visitors can expect from Design Miami/Basel 2012, Director of Design Miami, Marianne Goebl stated how this year’s show will feature a welcome injection of contemporary pieces that will sit alongside the historic ones – with many of the art works having their worldwide debut. Participants of the fair will include the likes of Erastudio from Milan, Granville Gallery and Armel Soyer from Paris and Vicotr Hunt from Brussels, with the huge support from Europe alone highlighting the gravitas the Design Miami/ Basel has the world over.
