Popular Miami Police Director To Retire Early

Popular Miami-Dade Police Director is retiring earlier than expected, as confirmed by police officials on Thursday.  Jim Loftus was a effervescent leader among the ranks of his police department and the news came after voters re-elected his boss, Mayor Carlos Gimenez – who has not got such a good reputation with the Miami-Dade police department.

The Police Directors official last day will be October 1st however he will be leaving this Friday due to vacation and other accrued time.  In an official e-mail to the department, Loftus reaffirmed that the decision to retire a couple of months early was ‘mine alone’.

“During the past couple of years, I’ve been asked to describe my duties as director. Simply stated, my job has been to worry,” the Direcotre wrote in hie email. “I think I’ve done my part, while you; the men and women of this department, have in large measure, done the rest of the work.

“Your courage, caring and commitment to doing what is right, no matter the cost, makes this department what it is: tested but unbroken, vigilant in a time of great turmoil and uncertainty, unrelenting in the face of danger.”

Loftus first came into the position of Police Director after taking over from Robert Parker, much of his loyal following has come from the way he has successfully guided his team though emotional and financial hardship.
