Ikea Invasion In Miami-Dade

No longer will resident s of Miami have to drive  to the far West of Broward County to get their scandi fix of cheap Swedish design furniture as Ikea is coming to Miami-Dade. Plans have been made for the Ikea brand to set up shop in Sweetwater next to the Dolphins Mall with preliminary plans for the store  to open in fall 2014.

The herald newspaper says that the huge 417,000 square foot store could begin construction next spring if all the plans are approved.  In comparison to their store in Sunrise, the Miami store would be up to 40 per cent larger even though the plot of land is smaller – meaning it will be built atop an existing two store parking garage to get double the space. The store construction will lead to around 500 news jobs being created, then once the store opens its doors a further 400 will be employed brining an employment boost to the Mimi-Dade area. In what seems like a Swedish takeover, this is the second wave of scandi shops that have hit Miami’s shores with two planned H&M stores opening on Lincoln Road and in Aventura Mall in the next few months.
