David Beckham To Build Miami MLS Stadium

The retired soccer player from England, David Beckham, has agreed to build a stadium in Miami and might get some help from the Miami Hurricanes. The stadium will be near the Marlins Park. David Beckham’s investment group will put up a 25,000 seat stadium, but just in case the Hurricanes move to the new stadium, it will see a 40,000 seat stadium as Beckham hold talks with the Miami Council and the hurricanes. This was announced in conjunction with Mayor Tomas Regalado, Beckham’s partner who is the CEO of Sprint, Mr. Marcelo Claure, as the Mayor Tomas takes the deal to the city commissioners to begin formal negotiations as well as for approval.

This project is a great deal that shows commitment like never before coming from Beckham investment group. Regalado said “this was another positive step toward bringing a world-class soccer club to Miami.” After Beckham had retired, he wanted to start an MLS franchise and his choice of Miami was an exercise of this right. MLS officials have said the expansion to Miami, this has seen MLS Secure a finance plan and a new place for a new stadium.

Mr Marcelo tweeted and said that it was “Great meeting with @Tomas_Regalado we have presented him our intentions to bring Futbol and a New soccer stadium in the former Orange Bowl.” This agreement comes 18 months later after bargaining with the legislatures for a potential location, which had tested the patience of MLS and had delayed the coming of MLS franchise to Miami City. MLS commissioner Don Garber in May told Goal.com, “I believe that there is a possibility for us to be in Miami, but it does need to be right, just because an opportunity exists doesn’t mean that we’re going to close on that deal, because we want to be sure that any new team has the opportunity to be successful.”

The offer of building a stadium in the Orange Bowl in hopes of creating a pro sports Mecca in the under-served Havana District. The fallout of owner Jeffrey Loria’s award from public funds which cost Miami up to 2.4 billion dollars for the next 40-years, made Miami legislators to fear such an offer and the local people too. However, Beckham Investment group courted favor as it promised to cater for the bill for the project from the initial stage.

The Beckham franchise will have to seek a home, in Marlins Park as the next best option, in the next season starting from 2018, if the stadium will not have been completed.

The Mayor said in a statement that the University of Miami had sighted interest over the stadium project, but they are not involved at this stage.
