The Miami Packing List

What to actually bring — by season, with the items everyone forgets. Check things off as you pack, or print it.

Miami packing mistakes come in two flavors: people who pack for a generic beach trip and get caught flat by summer storms and arctic restaurant air conditioning, and people who overpack for weather that is, frankly, warm almost every single day. This list fixes both. Check items off as you pack — your progress saves on this device.

The essentials (every season)

Summer additions (June–September)

Winter additions (December–February)

If your trip includes…

What NOT to bring

Heavy jeans (you'll wear them once, sweating), more than one pair of heels (sidewalks + sand), a hair dryer (every hotel has one), and beach towels (rent a chair or use the hotel's — towels eat half a suitcase).

Packing FAQ

What should I pack for Miami in summer?

Light, breathable fabrics (linen and cotton), two swimsuits so one is always dry, reef-safe sunscreen SPF 50+, a packable rain layer for the daily afternoon shower, sunglasses, and sandals. Summer in Miami is hot, humid, and stormy in short bursts — plan for sweat and sudden rain, not cold.

Do I need warm clothes for Miami in winter?

Bring one light jacket or sweater. December–February evenings occasionally dip into the 50s°F when a cold front passes, and indoor air conditioning runs cold year-round. Days are usually 70s and sunny.

What do people forget to pack for Miami?

The most-forgotten items: reef-safe sunscreen, a dressier outfit for restaurants with dress codes, a waterproof phone pouch for the beach, after-sun aloe, and a cooling towel in summer.
